After spending his whole life in cages, the old lifeguard Lion is still capable of being affectionate. The tenderness he shows for the little squirrels comes as a surprise, even to his caregivers. But at the end of the day, the animal kingdom never ceases to amaze when it comes to unlikely friendships.
Unfortunately, Leo Guero had a very sad past. A huge wildcat has spent its entire life in a private zoo in Mexico. He was forced to live out his days in tiny cages all by himself. An incredibly difficult life that affected him mentally and physically. Luckily, a local animal welfare organization found him just in time. Shortly after saving him, these volunteers asked the Colorado Wildlife Preserve for help. The kind people there were more than happy to help, so Guero was flown to the United States, where he received the necessary medical attention.
The rescued Lion was then transported to the reserve, where he finally had the chance to live in peace. He adapted very quickly to his new home and has apparently already made some new friends here.
Even his sad past has left deep wounds in his soul, the gentle giant still has the power to spread love to all those around him. Recently, Guero surprised his keepers with the kindness he showed to the little creature visiting his aviary. A massive lion was captured on camera as he shared a touching moment with a squirrel. Also, Guero was more than happy to share his food with tiny visitors. A beautiful friendship is about to be born!
“Turns out Guero and the 13 striped gophers are pals, and Guero purrs as the toddler shares his food,” Sanctuary wrote on Facebook. “Every day Guero likes to get whipped cream after he’s finished eating meat, and Belka decided he likes whipped cream too! It was a scene that we see repeated more and more often. They have such a “sweet” connection.
